In the press: the good news about Independents

"By any objective assessment, the independents have made a positive difference to Australian government on many key issues" writes former Liberal opposition leader, John Hewson

John Hewson is a professor at ANU and a former Liberal leader. He takes a special interest in the Community Independents Movement. In this edition of The Saturday Newspaper, he continues: "(..) by reflecting the views of their communities on issues the major parties have failed to address and left to drift. Climate is the most important of these, but so too are the challenges in the care sectors, in education, in the cost of living, and many more. The independents have consolidated their positions in their electorates, which suggests they will be hard to defeat, although they remain at risk from the government’s promised electoral reform bill, which they justifiably fear will see the two major parties collude to make their existence even more difficult."
